Our Genesis
Peter Chianugo C. is the Founder and Chief Servant of Ark of Rescue Mental Health and Addiction Society, a faith-inspired global initiative focused on Post Detox Total Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration of individuals facing Homelessness and Addiction. A compassionate humanitarian and servant leader, Peter’s journey with Ark of Rescue began in 2014 while completing his Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies with a focus on Human Rights Law at Ontario Tech University. During his final year, he developed a thesis exploring the hardship of children and the root causes of prostitution and robbery. Rather than submit the thesis for grading, he chose to live its purpose—believing that noble ideas are meant to be lived out, not merely evaluated.
Peter believes in and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, shaped by personal encounters that have transformed his life. He does not consider himself religious; rather, he follows the person of Jesus Christ, believing that His teachings are the truest expression and definition of Love. For example, Jesus teaches the principle that you cannot claim to love God, whom you have not seen, if you do not love the people whom you have seen (1 John 4:20). He also taught, "Whatever you want people to do to you, do also to them" (Matthew 7:12), commonly known as the Golden Rule.
Peter is also a strong advocate for freedom and personal responsibility. He believes that every individual has the God-given right to make their own choices (Deuteronomy 30:19), and that every choice naturally carries its own consequences. Therefore, no one should be forced into a belief system they freely choose not to embrace. At the same time, he recognizes that when a person's action violates the law, the appropriate legal consequences should follow, provided guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt. In this way, Peter upholds both freedom of conscience and the rule of law.
Canada is the birthplace and pilot nation of the International Homeless Program, where the model will first be established, refined, and demonstrated before being replicated in other communities across North America and internationally. Through God's grace, this vision seeks to transform lives by providing post-detox rehabilitation, employment opportunities, and practical supports that enable individuals to transition from homelessness and addiction to stability, independence, and meaningful participation in society.
Peter brings over a decade of experience in social research, community development, and frontline human services. Throughout his career, he has worked with respected organizations across North America and Africa, including the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Lookout Housing and Health Society, the Umbrella Society for Addictions and Mental Health, and the Ministry of Health, Canada. His frontline work in mental health and addictions rehabilitation has given him direct insight into the systemic gaps that often undermine long-term recovery. These insights have directly informed Ark of Rescue's holistic, dignity-centered model of care.
Peter's leadership journey began at an early age. He served as a Class Prefect in Grades 2, 5, and 9, and later as a School Prefect from Grades 10 through 12. In Grade 7, he became the first student at Kingsville Schools to receive the Best Behaved Student Award, a recognition of his character, discipline, and commitment to positive conduct.
In addition to these formal leadership roles, he actively led various student clubs and associations, developing strong foundations in responsibility, communication, teamwork, and service. These experiences prepared him for greater leadership opportunities, culminating in his historic election, with the distinction of a Double Honor (DH), as the first Black and first international student to serve as President of the Student Union at Ontario Tech University and Durham College.
In this role, he represented and advocated for thousands of students across Ontario, Canada, while leading institutional initiatives and collaborative efforts that contributed to meaningful and lasting change within the student community.
In addition to his academic and professional experience, Peter has pursued further studies in a range of disciplines, including, but not limited to, the Fundamentals of Homelessness Continuing Studies program at the University of Victoria, along with numerous specialized areas of health, social services, leadership, and community development. He has also completed more than 50 certifications in health, care, leadership, and personal development. These include training in Home Care, Personal Support Work, Mental Health, Emotional Intelligence, Harm Reduction, and other evidence-based approaches to supporting individuals and communities. This extensive educational and professional development has enabled him to identify critical gaps within existing systems of care while strengthening his commitment to developing solutions that empower individuals, restore dignity, and create sustainable pathways to long-term recovery, stability, and self-sufficiency.
Having studied Human Rights Law, Peter is committed to living a life grounded in respect, open-mindedness, and nonjudgment. His Christian faith is central to his identity and informs both his personal values and his written work. Much of his writing encourages the faith community to engage in deeper reflection, self-examination, and compassionate dialogue. Through his Christian research, Peter explores common misconceptions and long-standing interpretations that have, at times, contributed to exclusion, division, and judgment. His goal is to help guide the Church and its followers toward a posture of humility, grace, truth, and love, reflecting the core message of the Gospel and fostering a more compassionate and inclusive expression of faith.
In his recent book, Peter shares personal accounts of how God has preserved his life, beginning at birth and continuing through numerous moments in which he believes he was divinely guided, protected, or warned through vivid dreams, strong inner convictions, and scriptural visions. These experiences have strengthened his confidence in God's leading and affirmed his calling to serve humanity with courage and love.
Peter’s life and mission are deeply rooted in Scripture. He draws strength from Romans 8:28, trusting that all things work together for Good. He honours John 3:27 as a constant reminder that nothing is truly owned by anyone unless it is given from above, recognizing that every opportunity, gift, achievement, and blessing ultimately comes from God. And he strives to live by Matthew 7:12, treating others as he would want to be treated. These principles form the foundation of his character and permeate every aspect of his life and work, guiding his decisions, relationships, and unwavering commitment to serving others with humility, compassion, respect, and integrity. His work is not driven by pressure, personal recognition, or the pursuit of status, but by peace, faith, and a sincere desire to walk in obedience to God. He believes that true success is measured not only by outcomes, but by faithfulness to one's purpose and calling. Whether the program succeeds or not, Peter remains fulfilled in knowing that he is doing what he believes he was created to do: investing in lives, offering hope, restoring dignity, and building a legacy of compassion that extends beyond his lifetime. He approaches each opportunity with gratitude, recognizing that every accomplishment is the result of God's Grace, the support of others, and the strength that comes from persevering through challenges. His vision is rooted in the belief that every person has inherent worth and deserves the opportunity to rebuild, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to society. Peter welcomes respectful conversation and collaboration with individuals, organizations, communities, and governments who share the vision of a more just, compassionate, and restored world. He believes that meaningful and lasting change is achieved when people work together with humility, understanding, and a shared commitment to serving others.
